Vilnius, the present capital city of Lithuania, was founded at the beginning of the 14th century. Built on the confluence of two rivers, Neris and Vilnelė, it is an example of how an ancient city has organically developed over the centuries. Narrow streets and historical buildings represent different architectural styles: Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classicism.Today Vilnius is a modern city with new high-rise buildings for business and science, as well as open public spaces for cultural and sports events. It is a lively and welcoming city – a hub of science, culture and diversity.
